A case study for the future ride share

What does the future look like in terms of mobility and ride sharing? We created Crewser, a digital app that allows people to rideshare by matching them based on common interests. We believe that Crewser can not only provide an economical riding alternative but also caters meaningful experiences by connecting people based on their interests.

Challenge

Our motivation was to bring together the increasing number of people who don’t own cars, and have no intention to do so. User research revealed the underlying problem why people don’t use P2P ride sharing options: Lack of trust in the driver and process insecurity.

Solution

It was clear to us that the drivers of engagement with peer-to-peer sharing goes beyond functional reasons. Connecting with others over similar interests brings up an emotional dimension to the riding experience and creates trust and social proof. This finding guided the value proposition behind the execution which consisted of enabling people with similar interests to connect whilst riding together, allowing them to experience P2P riding at its fullest.

Learnings

We started focusing on commutes people do in their daily lives, such as going to work, or going to gym, etc. because that is where they seemed to currently use their cars, and where the competitors focus is, but as we dig further in our research, it became apparent to us that the reasons why people commute and rideshare go beyond functionality.
